When Zuckerburg formed Facebook back in 2004, no one imagined they would go onto world domination, acquiring competitor companies such as Instagram and WhatsApp on their way to a 100 billion dollar plus market valuation. The juggernaut Zuckerburg created is now bearing on another networking giant, Linkedin - the world's largest employment-oriented social networking service, LinkedIn. Battle lines drawn...

But will Facebook dethrone Linkedin?

Purchased by Microsoft back in June 2016, it is not yet clear what the long term direction of the currently marmite site Linkedin. After alienating users, in particular recruiters with their new changes and 'updates', Linkedin appears to be doing itself no favours.

But will Facebook dethrone Linkedin?

The Recruitment industry is estimated to be worth £35.1 billion to the UK alone, while the influence of online advertising such as job boards Indeed, Reed, Total Jobs continues to sour. It was only a matter of time before Facebook took Linkedin to the sword as the only social recruitment challenger.

Facebook are now allowing business pages in the USA & Canada to post job openings to their news feed and host them on a jobs tab on their page. When seen by Facebook users, they are then able to apply directly to the company via Facebook....and there's more to come.

Will Facebook Dethrone Linkedin?

The facts speak for themselves. With 1.79 billion people active on Facebook compared to LinkedIn’s 467 million , the chances are your next employee is a Facebook user. That's exactly what Facebook are banking on.

With 1 in every 5 minutes spent online being spent on Facebook itself, its the perfect platform to grab the attention of people who are not necessarily looking for a new role. In a working climate where the best quality workers are already employed it's vital to reach these passive candidates. A study by Work4 shows that 60% of candidates are passive, followed by 25% active and a mere 15% loyal to their role don't want to move.

Facebook adverts have also proven to be 3x more effective than any other form of advertising. This will enable them to naturally deliver a higher quality of candidate and ultimately return on investment.

If you asked us 'Will Facebook Dethrone Linkedin?', we'd have to say yes - the facts speak for themselves. Facebook simply have the size, traffic and advertising trust that will  topple Linkedin.
