A technological whirlwind is on the horizon. One that could redefine the recruitment business as we know it...GDPR.

The introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation is only months away, are you prepared?

We've put together 5 key pieces of information you must know in order to make sure your recruitment process is up to date, legal and compliant.

For those of you scratching your heads, wandering what those four words stand to bring to recruitment, Talentvine has a few pointers to bring newbies up to speed. Because, trust us, when the axe comes down on 25th May 2018, you're going to be glad you read this.

What is GDPR? - GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation. It is a regulation bought about by the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, and the European Commission. It is intended to supersede the Data Protection Directive and returning primary control of personal data back to the owners.

Collecting Candidate Consent – Implied consent is not going to cut it in the GDPR age. Companies need to demonstrate that they have gotten explicit consent from the client – in the case of recruitment – job candidates – to use their personal data for specifically outlined purposes, making them aware of what they intend to do with their data every step of the way.

Right to Forget – If a candidate decides they want to cut ties with the companies, they maintain the right to have their personal data deleted from the system, a 'right to be forgotten'.

Data Breaches Need to Be Reported Sharpish – If a data breach should befall your company, then you need to report said breach to your Supervisory Authority within 72 hours, including what kind of data was threatened, the types of people impacted (candidates, customers etc) and what is being done to ensure a repeat incident is not on the cards.

A Heavy Price to Pay – Failure to comply with GDPR policy could see companies incur a maximum penalty of up to 20 million euros or 4% of annual turnover, whatever is higher.

So, the key thing for all recruiters who dabble in data is to review their existing practices are up to date and 100% GDPR compliant in time for 25th May 2018.
